Breakin’ Poster Series
I use to break (breakdance) when I was a kid. My brothers, my dad, and I practiced together and performed street shows. It was a lot of fun because it felt like a family activity, and it was my dad’s way to bond with his kids. I stopped when I started high school, and ever since, I’ve had the itch to get back into it. However, it is really hard to get back into; it requires a lot of core and upper body strength. It’s just very frustrating because I have all the muscle memory and none of the strength. To prevent myself from giving up, I started this project to keep myself accountable. I figured that if I added another aspect to my involvement in the community, it would help me stay connected to it.
My goal for this project is to highlight and celebrate each individual in every poster. I want to share how difficult and artistic this form of expression is with the world. I hope to create one for every bboy and bgirl I meet. And maybe one day, I’ll get to reconnect with the bboys and bgirls who supported me when I was a kid.
